On Sunday, the highly regarded prospect Adael Amador was promoted by the Colorado Rockies from Double-A Hartford. Simultaneously, infielder Brendan Rodgers was placed on the 10-day injured list due to a left hamstring strain.
Rodgers' move is backdated to Saturday as he suffered the injury during Friday's 8-5 defeat against the St. Louis Cardinals. Amador, who is ranked as the Rockies' top prospect by MLB.com, has not yet played in Triple-A. He made his MLB debut on Sunday, starting at second base and batting eighth against St. Louis. In his initial at-bat, he hit a single and successfully stole second base. However, he ended the game with a 1-for-3 performance, including a strikeout, in the Rockies' 5-1 loss.
Amador, 21, was batting .194 with seven homers, 24 RBIs and 22 stolen bases in 46 games with the Yard Goats. Rodgers, 27, is batting .275 with three homers and 22 RBIs in 59 games this season with Colorado. The former Gold Glove second baseman is a career .267 hitter with 35 homers and 165 RBIs in 376 games with the Rockies.
