Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever are currently enjoying a successful streak, boasting a record of 6-1, with Clark emerging as a strong contender for the Rookie of the Year accolade. Colin Cowherd and Nick Wright have raised the question of whether the WNBA is adequately supporting Clark's ascent to stardom. In a remarkable display of talent, Caitlin Clark has once again made headlines by setting a new WNBA single-season assist record, achieving her 317th assist during a game against the Las Vegas Aces on Friday. Just two days prior, in their last encounter, Aces veteran A'ja Wilson had set a new benchmark for single-season scoring, amassing 956 points in an 86-75 victory over the Fever.
Before this achievement, fellow rookie Angel Reese set a new WNBA record for single-season rebounds. This milestone was reached during the Chicago Sky's 79-74 defeat against Minnesota on September 1, where she exceeded Sylvia Fowles' previous record of 404 rebounds established in 2018. However, the spotlight shifted back to Clark on Friday night. In her game against the Minnesota Lynx, Clark made her 103rd three-pointer of the season, thereby claiming the top position on the Fever's all-time list for three-pointers in a single season. Just a few days earlier, she had marked her 100th three-pointer while facing the Los Angeles Sparks, achieving this milestone faster than any player in the history of the league. Additionally, she became the first rookie and the fifth player in WNBA history to achieve more than one triple-double in a single season, joining the ranks of the recently retired Candace Parker, along with Courtney Williams, Sabrina Ionescu, and Alyssa Thomas in this elite group.
A week prior, during a match against the Dallas Wings, Caitlin Clark achieved the milestone of scoring her 595th career point, thereby surpassing WNBA icon Tamika Catchings for the highest points scored in a single season by a rookie in the history of the Indiana Fever. In a game held on September 11, 2024, in Indianapolis, Clark, wearing jersey number 22, drove to the basket against Jackie Young of the Las Vegas Aces, who wore number 0. In her latest performance against Reese and the Sky on August 30, Clark recorded the first-ever 30-point, 12-assist game in WNBA history, becoming only the fifth player and the first rookie to achieve at least 30 points and 10 assists in a single game. Furthermore, she has now accumulated 12 double-doubles, setting a new WNBA record for the most double-doubles by a guard in a single season. Just three days earlier, Clark had broken the record for the most three-pointers made by a rookie, surpassing the previous record held by Rhyne Howard of the Atlanta Dream. In that game, she made 3 out of 12 attempts from beyond the arc, finishing with 19 points, five rebounds, and five assists, contributing to Indiana's 15th victory. On that same evening, Clark also became the first player in WNBA history to record at least 15 points, five rebounds, and five assists in six consecutive games. This marked her 10th consecutive game with a minimum of 15 points and five rebounds, placing her in an elite category alongside Diana Taurasi. Clark has successfully led the Fever to the playoffs for the first time in eight years.
