The Colorado Buffaloes women's soccer team has made an early-season statement, securing the No. 22 spot in the latest United Soccer Coaches Top 25 national rankings for NCAA Division I women’s soccer. This marks a significant achievement for the Buffs as they continue their impressive run in their return season in the Big 12 conference.

Under the leadership of head coach Danny Sanchez, the Buffs have started the season with a strong 3-1 record, including standout victories against Wyoming and Michigan during their recent four-game homestand. The team’s success on both sides of the ball has caught the attention of the national soccer community, earning them a place among the top programs in the country.

One of the driving forces behind Colorado's early success has been the outstanding performance of their defense, particularly the stellar play of goalkeeper Jordan Nytes. Nytes, who was recently named the Big 12 co-Goalkeeper of the Week, has been a wall in goal, recording multiple shutouts and making crucial saves in key moments. Her efforts have anchored a defense that has allowed just one goal in their first four matches.

Offensively, the Buffs have been equally impressive. Fifth-year senior Shyra James continues to rewrite the program’s record books, having recently broken Colorado's all-time goal-scoring record. James, along with a talented supporting cast, has provided the firepower needed to secure critical wins and propel the Buffs into the national spotlight.

The No. 22 ranking is a testament to the team’s hard work and the depth of talent on the roster. Coach Sanchez has expressed pride in his players' dedication and is optimistic about the road ahead.

“We’ve been working toward this for a long time,” Sanchez said. “Our players have shown a lot of grit and determination to get to this point. Being recognized nationally is great, but we know there’s a lot more work to be done. We’re focused on continuing to improve and proving we belong in the Top 25.”

The Buffs’ next challenge will come on the road as they prepare to face a highly competitive North Carolina team. As they move forward, the No. 22 ranking will undoubtedly serve as both a source of pride and motivation for the squad.

With momentum on their side and national recognition now part of the equation, the Buffs are poised to make a strong push in the Big 12 and continue climbing the ranks of collegiate women’s soccer. Fans and analysts alike will be keeping a close eye on Colorado as they seek to build on their early success and establish themselves as one of the top programs in the nation.
