Caitlin Clark's skill and appeal as a basketball player has attracted a large number of new fans to the Indiana Fever and the WNBA as a whole. This past Sunday, the Footprint Center was at full capacity with 17,071 spectators in attendance to watch the game. It is probable that many of them were there specifically to see Clark in action, and they were able to witness her come very close to achieving a triple-double.

Kelsey Mitchell, the Fever guard, acknowledged following the Fever’s 88-82 victory that she needed to adjust to the new enthusiasm surrounding the team. The team is currently drawing an average of approximately 16,700 fans at the Gainbridge Fieldhouse – the highest in the WNBA.

"I think the same eyes were on her at Iowa, so I think she's kind of like mastered how it's supposed to go. Hats off to her for dealing with it. I think for us it's obviously an adjustment," Mitchell said. "We're new to Caitlin, and Caitlin is new to us, so it's an adjustment as far as those eyes, but me personally, I'm fine."

Mitchell, an All-Star for the first time last season, is currently averaging 16.3 points this season. Interestingly, Clark surpassed Mitchell’s scoring record in college as she went on to become the all-time leader.

The Fever's triumph against the Mercury elevated them to the 8th spot in the WNBA standings. If the season were to end on Sunday, they would find themselves in the playoffs for the first time since 2017.
