Lamar Jackson sets a new NFL record for quarterback rushing, contributing to three touchdowns in the Ravens' decisive 31-2 victory against the Texans.

Lamar Jackson set a new NFL record for career rushing yards by a quarterback during the Baltimore Ravens' commanding 31-2 victory over the Houston Texans on Wednesday. A standout moment occurred when Jackson sprinted 48 yards for a touchdown, achieving a personal best speed of 21.25 mph. "I was jogging," Jackson remarked. "I didn’t have to do anything." This performance further solidified his candidacy for the MVP award as the Ravens edged closer to securing the AFC North title. Coach John Harbaugh praised Jackson, stating, "It’s just another phenomenal performance. He set the all-time NFL record for rushing yards by a quarterback in professional football. That kind of speaks for itself. It’s just what he does every week." In addition to his rushing success, Jackson passed for 168 yards and two touchdowns while accumulating 87 rushing yards, including the impressive long run. His career rushing total now stands at 6,110 yards, surpassing Michael Vick's previous record of 6,109 yards achieved over 13 seasons. "Michael Vick, one of my favorite players," Jackson expressed. "That’s just dope." With an 11-5 record, the Ravens have secured their third consecutive playoff appearance and will need a win against Cleveland next week to clinch the division title over Pittsburgh, who suffered their third consecutive loss to Kansas City on Wednesday. Jackson, the MVP in both 2019 and last season, delivered a performance that rivaled the spectacular halftime show by Beyoncé, contributing to Baltimore's third straight win. He played for just over three quarters before yielding to Josh Johnson with approximately ten minutes remaining, as the outcome was already determined. "Just having fun," Jackson stated. "The NFL is not easy. I don’t care what nobody says. It looks easy, but it’s not."

Jackson completed touchdown passes of 9 and 1 yards and remained untouched during a 48-yard scoring run that extended the lead to 24-2 in the third quarter. Derrick Henry rushed for 147 yards and established a new Ravens season record with his 16th touchdown, achieved on a 2-yard run in the first quarter, surpassing the previous records held by Ray Rice (2011) and Mark Ingram (2019). Baltimore showcased dominance against a Houston team struggling after the loss of their dynamic receiver, Tank Dell, to a season-ending knee injury sustained on Saturday. "This game comes down to players making impactful plays, and they had two outstanding playmakers in Lamar and Derrick Henry," remarked Houston coach DeMeco Ryans. "They made the necessary plays, and that determined the outcome." The AFC South champions faced challenges in completing drives, managing only a safety for their points in the second quarter. C.J. Stroud passed for 185 yards but was sacked five times and threw an interception, while Joe Mixon could only muster 26 yards rushing as the Texans (9-7) suffered their second consecutive defeat. Although Mixon declined to speak to the media after the game, Stroud accepted responsibility for the loss, stating, "It was terrible on my part, probably one of the worst games of my career. I came out flat and lacked energy. I failed to lead the offense as I should have." Rookie Kamari Lassiter recorded a 4-yard loss on Henry for a safety with approximately 10 minutes remaining in the first half, narrowing the lead to 10-2. Dameon Pierce subsequently returned the kickoff for 45 yards, positioning the Texans at their own 43-yard line. However, they failed to capitalize when Mixon was halted just short of the end zone after catching a short pass on fourth-and-3. Jackson then directed a 99-yard drive to extend the lead, evading pressure and connecting with Mark Andrews for a 67-yard gain, placing the Ravens in the red zone with just over two minutes remaining in the first half.

Isaiah Likely's 9-yard touchdown reception just two plays later brought the score to 17-2, marking the first halftime score of 17-2 in NFL history. Kyle Hamilton intercepted Stroud's pass during the initial drive of the second half. Shortly thereafter, Jackson's impressive long touchdown run increased the score to 24-2. He established a rushing record with a 6-yard run on Baltimore's subsequent drive. Later in that same drive, he evaded multiple defenders before connecting with Andrews for a 1-yard touchdown, extending Baltimore's lead to 31-2.

Ravens running back Rasheen Ali sustained a hip injury during the third quarter and did not re-enter the game. Meanwhile, Texans tight end Cade Stover made his return after being sidelined for two games due to an emergency appendectomy.

Looking ahead, the Ravens are set to host the Browns, while the Texans will travel to face the Titans next weekend. The specific dates for these games have not yet been announced.
