Natasha Cloud, a guard for the Phoenix Mercury, has been actively engaged in the inaugural season of the Unrivaled League, competing for Phantom BC in the 3-on-3 professional women’s basketball circuit. However, she remains focused on the upcoming developments in the WNBA.
The onset of WNBA free agency is imminent, as the 13 teams in the league prepare to retain their key players while also seeking to attract new talent to strengthen their rosters. Cloud is keenly involved in this recruitment process. Following Phantom BC's 84-71 defeat to Vinyl BC on Monday, Sabrina Ionescu, a star for the New York Liberty and Phantom, was questioned about the possibility of recruiting forward Satou Sabally to the Liberty after Sabally announced her decision not to re-sign with the Dallas Wings on January 9. In a video shared by Desert Wave Media on X, Cloud interjected before Ionescu could respond, expressing her own interest in playing alongside Sabally.
“We both are,” Cloud said. “Don’t just say Sabrina.”

In her characteristic manner, Cloud brought humor to the conversation, yet she is earnest about the prospect of recruiting Sabally and other players, particularly given the opportunities that Unrivaled offers. "This is undoubtedly the prime environment for attracting free agents," Cloud remarked. "Ultimately, my priority is what is best for Satou as she progresses." Her genuine desire is for Sabally to join the Mercury. "If that means Phoenix, I would even offer my apartment to her," Cloud stated. "However, it is essential that Satou, as a person, finds happiness so that her performance on the court can flourish and she can achieve her full potential." Sabally has certainly been carving out her niche in the WNBA.

The forward faced a significant setback during the 2024 season, as she was sidelined for a considerable period due to a shoulder injury incurred while representing Germany in the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament, following a standout performance in 2023. In addition to receiving the Most Improved Player award, she earned a spot on the All-WNBA First Team and participated in the WNBA All-Star game. Upon her return last year, she made an immediate impact on the Wings, contributing significantly to a challenging season by averaging an impressive 17.9 points, 6.4 rebounds, five assists, and 1.3 steals over 15 games.
