The Los Angeles Dodgers have sent reliever Michael Petersen to Triple-A Oklahoma City for the second time this month. Petersen was brought up to the majors on July 9 and played in three games since then.
Throughout this season, Petersen has played in nine games for the Dodgers, achieving a 3-0 record with a 4.50 ERA and eight strikeouts. He debuted in the MLB this season, playing his first game on June 18. His most recent appearance was in Sunday’s 4-3 loss to the Detroit Tigers, where he recorded two outs.
Petersen's demotion to Triple-A followed a disappointing performance, allowing four earned runs in a 12-4 defeat against the Arizona Diamondbacks. He is now back in Triple-A, where he has spent most of the 2024 season. During his time with Oklahoma City, he has participated in 23 games and conceded four earned runs, resulting in a 1.61 ERA.
Petersen had stints in the minor league systems of the Milwaukee Brewers and Colorado Rockies before signing a minor league contract with the Dodgers in January. The Dodgers are expected to make a corresponding move before his return from the All-Star Break on Friday, when they face the Boston Red Sox. This move may involve activating Joe Kelly, who has been on the 60-day injured list since May 6 due to a posterior shoulder strain. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts confirmed that Kelly would rejoin the team after the All-Star Break. He has already completed two rehabilitation assignments for the Single-A Rancho Cucamonga Quakes and seems to be on track for a return by this weekend.
