Here's an overview of the current injury and recent roster moves affecting the team:
Key Injuries:
Tyler Freeman (UTIL): Freeman left a game on March 30 after being hit by a pitch, resulting in a bruised left wrist. He was available off the bench on March 31 and is considered day-to-day.
Austin Gomber (LHP): Gomber is on the 15-day injured list (retroactive to March 24) due to left shoulder soreness. He made a rehab start for Triple-A Albuquerque on March 29 and is scheduled for another on April 2, with an expected return date of April 8.
Jeff Criswell (RHP): Criswell underwent Tommy John surgery on March 14 and is expected to miss the entire 2025 season.
Drew Romo (C): Romo is not on the Triple-A Albuquerque roster to begin the season as he is being evaluated for a finger injury.
Thairo Estrada (2B): Estrada is expected to miss four to eight weeks due to a non-displaced fracture in his right wrist, sustained after being hit by a pitch during spring training.
Germán Márquez (RHP): Márquez is returning from Tommy John surgery performed in May 2023. He made one start in July 2024 but was shut down in August due to a stress reaction in his elbow.
Recent Roster Moves:
Tyler Freeman Acquisition: In response to Estrada's injury, the Rockies acquired middle infielder Tyler Freeman from the Cleveland Guardians in exchange for left fielder Nolan Jones. Freeman is expected to play second base during Estrada's absence.
